Who knew that knowing even the smallest amount of German would help us in Berlin. Really who. The way there was even catastrophic ... We missed one train, another was delayed, we took bad directions and got lost on the way to our hostel. Ah well such is life. Our first day out we were cold, wet, and literally lost in translation. Berlin is massive and even the people at information desks were turning their backs on us because they didn't speak English. The next day was a little more productive and we had a change of heart. Although the weather was still gnarly we saw all the main attractions of the city including the Holocaust Memorial and Check Point Charlie, as well as remnants of the Berlin Wall. We enjoyed Bratwurst and Becks German beer to get a real feel for Germany and called it a day well done.
